Frederick Strikes Out
Sweep Attempt Falls Short in 7-1 Loss
04/17/2013 11:12 PM ET

In a game that saw a combined 28 strikeouts, the Keys saw theirs creep up at inopportune times as Frederick left 11 men on-base in a 7-1 loss to Lynchburg Wednesday night. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak and left the Keys in an early three-game way tie with Lynchburg and Wilmington atop the Carolina League's North.

Frederick grabbed the early lead in the first inning. Keys center fielder Glynn Davis reached via a fielding error and went to third base on a single to right field by shortstop Sammie Starr. Two batters later and RBI-double by catcher Zane Chavez got the Keys on the board. Little did the Keys know it would be their last hit until the ninth inning.

Keys starter Tim Berry was dominant at times, tying a career high with 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. Berry struck out four of the first six batters he faced but battled through a rocky third inning. A single and a double began the frame and with one down Hillcats center fielder Matt Lipka tripled home two runs. Lipka would later score on a groundout and Lynchburg had a 3-1 lead.

Keys pitchers struck out a combined 15 Hillcats batters while walking only onw. Their were four errors committed in the game and all were by the Hillcats. But still Frederick found themselves on the wrong end of the stick. Timely hitting was not on the Keys side as Frederick was 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

After nine out of 12 at home to start the year the Keys now head to the road with an eight-game trip to Potomac and Myrtle Beach on the horizon. Thursday night in Woodbridge, VA is a 7:05 p.m. start with starter Zach Petersime getting the nod for Frederick.

The Keys return home Friday, April 26th with the start of Family Fitness Weekend at Harry Grove Stadium. The first 500 kids ages 16 and under will receive a free T-Shirt courtesy of Remax Results Amanda Addington and fireworks follow the game. First pitch against the Carolina Mudcats is slated for 7:00 p.m.
