Tampa, Fla. -After compiling a four-game win streak, the Tampa Yankees (8-9) fell 8-3 to the Brevard County Manatees (10-7) on Sunday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
The Manatees jumped out to a two run lead in the second. After singles by Cameron Garfield and Yadiel Rivera, Lance Roenicke reached on an error by shortstop Jose Toussen to load the bases with one out. Dionis Hinojosa delivered an RBI fielder's choice to drive in Garfield. Adrian Williams then hit an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Yankees starting pitcher Corey Black (1-1) ran into more trouble in the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Cody Hawn and Rivera led off the inning. With runners on the corners, Roenicke grounded out to third to drive in Hawn. Hinojosa then hit an RBI triple to centerfield. Chadwin Stang would make it 5-0 after a two-out RBI single.
Black returned for the fifth inning. However, things didn't get any easier. After a leadoff double by Nick Ramirez, Garfield delivered an RBI single. After retiring Hawn, Black then gave up a single to Rivera and a double to Roenicke. Tampa would then bring in reliever Joel De La Cruz. After a walk by Hinojosa, Williams reached on an error at third base by Anderson Feliz. That allowed Rivera to score to make it 7-0.
Tampa got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning. After a walk by Franciscio Arcia, Eduardo Sosa doubled. Toussen then drove in Arcia with a groundout to make it 7-1.
Brevard County starting pitcher Brooks Hall (2-1) allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.
In the eighth, the Manatees tacked on one more run. With runners on the corners, Williams scored on a double play groundout by Brandon Macias.
The Yankees threatened in the bottom half of the eighth. Back-to-back singles by Rob Refsnyder and Ben Gamel started the frame. A walk by Gary Sanchez loaded the bases. Saxon Butler and Feliz each hit RBI groundouts to draw the Yankees within five, 8-3. A fly out by Arcia ended the threat.
