Jerad Head and Justin Bloxom hit back-to-back home runs to lead off the fourth inning, but the Senators comeback attempt fell short, as the Reading Fightin Phils held on for a 6-5 win to complete a three-game sweep at Metro Bank Park.
Reading jumped ahead 4-0 after two innings against starter Trevor Holder due in large part to some sloppy play by the Senators. A night after committing four errors, Harrisburg had three more miscues. Holder, who was making a spot start, retired the last seven hitters he faced in his four innings on the mound.
Down 5-2 in the sixth, Ricky Hague delivered a two-run triple to bring the Senators within one. The Fightin Phils scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 6-4 lead. In the eighth, the Senators loaded the bases with nobody out, but were only able to bring home one run.
Bloxom and Brian Goodwin had two hits apiece for the Senators. Marcos Frias, Michael Broadway, and Aaron Barrett combined to strike out eight and didn't walk a man in five innings out of the bullpen, giving up just one earned run in the process.
Tomorrow, the Senators are off before opening up a three-game series on the road at Bowie on Friday. Game time is 7:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m.
