The GreenJackets entered Friday with the South Atlantic League's best record and in first place of the southern division. Still, they were the only team in the SAL without a home run.
But third baseman Mitch Delfino changed that with a grand slam in the top of the fifth, as Augusta (14-7) went on to defeat Lexington (8-14) 12-1 on Friday.
Delfino's day started in the top of the third. With two outs and Jesus Galindo on second, Delfino doubled to center field earning his first RBI of the night. Delfino earned four more RBI in the fifth inning.
Galindo lead off the top of the fifth with a single to third. Matt Duffy then reached on a walk and Shayne Houck singled to shortstop to load the bases. Delfino came up next and hit a grand slam over the left field wall to put Augusta up 6-0.
Following their huge fifth inning, the GreenJackets put up three more runs in the sixth inning.
With Andrew Cain on second and Galindo on first, Duffy singled to right field to bring in Cain. Houck then hit a double to left field to score Galindo and move Duffy to third. Delfino picked up his sixth RBI of the night when he grounded out to second base, which allowed Duffy to score.
Just like they did in the sixth, the GreenJackets put up three runs in the seventh.
With Chuckie Jones on third and Cain on first, Galindo singled to left field, which brought in Jones. Duffy then used a line-drive single to right field to score Cain and move Galindo to third. Houck drove in the GreenJackets final run of the game on a line-drive single to center to score Galindo.
The GreenJackets will continue their series against the Legends tonight at 7:05 p.m. as Augusta looks for its third-straight win.
