Ten Run Inning Dooms Senators
04/29/2013 11:47 PM ET

New Britain, CT - Down by five early, the New Britain Rock Cats scored 10 runs in the fourth inning and added some insurance late to defeat the Harrisburg Senators 16-8 in the opener of a four-game series.

The Senators started well after winning two straight in Bowie over the weekend. With the game scoreless into the second, they put up a four spot to take the early edge. Destin Hood delivered an RBI single and Sandy Leon had a two-run double to highlight the inning. Harrisburg added another in the third to go up 5-0 on Justin Bloxom's RBI single.

It was downhill from there for the Sens. Starter Paul Demny cruised through the first three innings, but immediately ran into trouble in the decisive fourth. He gave up five straight hits and four runs to start the inning, and was chased from the game two batters later. The Rock Cats scored six more times for a total of 10 runs on 11 hits in the fourth alone. James Beresford was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and a run scored in the inning. Antoan Richardson had the RBI double to give New Britain the lead that they would not relinquish.

The Senators immediately got back into the game with a three-run fifth, cutting the lead to 10-8. Brian Goodwin led off with a triple, one of his three hits on the night. Josh Johnson drove him in with an RBI single, and later in the inning Jerad Head brought home Johnson with an RBI double.

New Britain gave themselves all the insurance they needed with a six-run seventh inning. Blake Martin picked up the win in relief after the Senators knocked out starter Trevor May early.

Tomorrow, the Senators continue their four-game series in New Britain against the Rock Cats. Game time is 6:35 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:20 p.m.
