Broderick Strong But Sens Shut Out 4-0 by Rock Cats
05/01/2013 10:10 PM ET

New Britain, CT - Brian Broderick pitched seven strong innings, but the Senators were shut out 4-0 by the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday night.

Broderick retired two of the first three hitters he faced to begin his night, but three straight two out hits produced three runs for the Rock Cats. With a runner on second, Josmil Pinto delivered an RBI single. Two batters later, Reynaldo Rodriguez came through with a two-run triple.

Broderick cruised for the most part after the first, only allowing a solo homer to Daniel Ortiz in the sixth inning. He tied a season-high with six strikeouts and didn't walk a batter. Matt Swynenberg pitched a shutout eighth out of the Senators bullpen.

The Senators could never really get anything going against New Britain starter Logan Darnell, aside from two opportunities. In the second, Harrisburg had the bases loaded with one out and grounded into a double play to end the inning. The first two hitters reached in the seventh, but the next three went out in order. Darnell gave up only five hits and struck out six in his seven innings of work.

Jerad Head, Justin Bloxom, and Destin Hood had two hits apiece for the Senators.

Tomorrow morning, the Senators conclude their four-game series in New Britain against the Rock Cats. Game time is 10:35 a.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 10:20 a.m.
