Early Surge Propels Keys to Fourth Straight

Five-Run Third Inning Keeps Undefeated Trip Alive
May 6, 2013

Glynn Davis's two-out, third inning, bases clearing triple plated three runs as a part of a five-run third inning that lifted the Keys to a 10-3 win at Winston-Salem Monday night. The win was the fourth in a row for the Keys and vaulted Frederick to tops in the Carolina League North by a half a game.

The Keys got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when catcher Zane Chavez singled home two runs with the bases loaded. Up 2-1 in the third inning, the Keys would get the big inning in the third inning and not look back.

Chavez made it a four-RBI night with a line drive two run home run to right field. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Davis came through with his triple to left-center field.

Late in the game second baseman Jerome Pena came through with a long home run down the left field line. The two-run drive was argued to be a foul ball by Winston-Salem and manager Ryan Newman was tossed from the game. Pena would add an RBI-double in the ninth inning to provide the tenth Keys run of the game.

Starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez battled through a 27-pitch first inning to pitch six innings for the win Rodriguez (3-2) became the first Key to reach the three-win plateau and worked at least six innings for the fifth time in six starts.

Gene Escat worked through a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning for two shutout innings of work. Right-hander Jesse Beal followed with a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish the game off.

The Keys look to make it five-in-a-row Tuesday, May 7th in Winston-Salem with right-handed pitcher Tyler Wilson on the hill. Coverage begins 30-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.
