DAYTON, Ohio -- A mom who is a breast cancer survivor will celebrate Mother's Day by throwing out the first pitch at the Dayton Dragons game on Sunday, May 12 at 2 p.m. The Dragons host the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Fifth Third Field, 220 North Patterson Blvd. in downtown Dayton.

Carroll Dalton is a breast cancer survivor, mother and grandmother. Carroll was diagnosed with breast cancer in August of 1993 and was declared cancer free in May of 1994. After experiencing breast cancer and long stays in the hospital, Carroll wanted to help others dealing with the disease. She decided to go to clown school and joined the "Anything But Serious Clown Troupe" at Kettering Medical Center.

At least once a week for the past 10 years, Carroll dons a clown costume and visits hospital patients. The way she see it, making people smile is a very powerful thing. She became a volunteer because she remembers how she felt when she faced breast cancer, it was a shock. That was 19 years ago. "Cancer treatment is such a hard thing," says Carroll, "I decided then I would come back to the hospital as a clown to cheer people up."

Note to media: If you would like to interview Carroll and or photograph her at work or throwing out the first pitch, please contact Elizabeth Long at 937-367-2233 or elizabeth.long@khnetwork.org.
