Duffy's slam caps wild comeback

Lancaster scores seven in eighth with help of four wild pitches
9:39 PM EDT

LANCASTER, Calif. - Matt Duffy blasted a grand slam to break a tie in the eighth inning and cap a dramatic JetHawks come-from-behind win over the Stockton Ports on Saturday night at The Hangar.

A season-high crowd of 3,806 watched as the JetHawks scored seven times in the eighth to tie the game and eventually take the lead and win.

Duffy's grand slam came after a series of Ports miscues that set the table for the JetHawks to take the lead.

Brandon Meredith reached to start the inning on an Addison Russell error, and after a Nolan Fontana single, scored on the first of four wild pitches in the inning.

Jonathan Joseph relieved Jose Macias with two outs and Fontana at third base with M.P. Cokinos due up. Joseph threw a wild pitch on ball four to Cokinos allowing Fontana to score and bringing the JetHawks within one run.

The next batter, Preston Tucker swung and missed for strike three but the ball skipped away from the catcher allowing him to reach first.

Telvin Nash followed with a swing and miss on a full count pitch but again, the ball skipped away for another wild pitch, loading the bases for Tyler Heineman. Heineman walked to tie the game and set the table for Duffy's grand slam.

David Rollins (3-3), the tandem starter, allowed one hit over four scoreless innings to keep the JetHawks in the game.

Lancaster had been no-hit through the first four innings by Ports starter Drew Granier. Stockton had given him six runs of support with a six-run fourth inning against starter Tyson Perez.

Addison Russell ended Perez's night with a three-run home run, his second of the series, in the fourth.

The JetHawks first hit came on a Tucker double in the fifth inning. Heineman singled him home later in the inning to get Lancaster its first run. The team's second run came on a Joe Sclafani RBI-single and Cokinos RBI-ground ball in the sixth.

The series continues on Sunday afternoon with the third game of the series at 2:00 pm. The JetHawks (21-15) will send Kyle Hallock to the mound for his Lancaster debut. Stockton (18-18) will send Jake Brown to the mound.

Sunday is a special Mother's Day Family in the Park Sunday. The first 200 Moms through the gates will receive a special Mother's Day gift. Come early to play catch on the field and after the game, kids 14 and under can run the bases.
