Tampa, Fla. - Three hits and four RBI by Josh Adams helped the Jupiter Hammerheads (18-19) beat the Tampa Yankees (15-21) 7-2 on Tuesday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
Jupiter scored four in the second inning to take an early lead. Austin Nola led off with a walk. Wilfredo Gimenez followed with a single to move Nola to third. Michael Main drove in the first run with an RBI single to right. Adams then hit a three run home run to right to give the Hammerheads a 4-0 lead.
Yankees starter Corey Black (1-5) allowed four runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out four in four innings of work.
Tampa drove in a run in the seventh. With one out, Fu Lin Kuo singled to right. Cody Grice later doubled down the right field line, driving in Kuo to make it 4-1.
Jupiter added some insurance in the eighth. After a walk by Adams, Brent Keys singled, moving Adams to third. Keys later stole second. Yankees reliever Zach Arneson intentionally walked Ryan Rieger to load the bases. Arneson then walked Austin Barnes to force in a run.
The Yankees also scored in the eighth. Rob Refsnyder hit a two-out double to right. Gary Sanchez followed with a walk. Sanchez would score on an RBI single to left by Anderson Feliz.
Adams came through again for Jupiter in the ninth. With a runner on second and two outs, Adams hit an RBI double to right-center field. Adams later scored on an RBI single by Keys to give the Hammerheads a 7-2 lead.
Hammerheads starting pitcher Justin Nicolino (1-1) pitched six shutout innings. He scattered five hits and struck out five in the win.
The series continues on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. for a School Day at George M. Steinbrenner Field. RHP Shane Greene is scheduled to pitch for Tampa. Jupiter will counter with RHP Josh Hodges.
