Kingsport Mets Announce 2013 Coaching Staff

KINGSPORT, TN. - The Kingsport Mets have announced their coaching staff for the 2013 Appalachian League season. Jose Leger returns as Kingsport Mets manager and is joined for the second consecutive season by pitching coach Jonathan Hurst and hitting coach Yunir Garcia.


Leger returns for his second season as the team's manager. Leger previously served as the manager for the Dominican Summer League Mets for two seasons. Before becoming manager, Leger was the hitting coach for the Dominican Summer League Twins in 2009. He played in the Minnesota Twins' minor league system from 2004-2008 as a catcher and infielder. He attended Georgia College State University and was selected to the All-Conference team twice.


Hurst will begin his fourth season as pitching coach with Kingsport. It's his eighth year as a pitching coach in the Mets organization. Hurst also pitched for the New York Mets in 1994, appearing in seven games.


Garcia enters his second season as hitting coach with Kingsport. He begins his sixth season as a coach in the Mets organization after previously serving as the hitting coach with the Gulf Coast Mets in 2011.


Kiyoshi Tada returns for his second year as the team's athletic trainer, and his third season overall with the Mets organization. He spent 2011 with the Brooklyn Cyclones.


Jay Jones begins his first season as the team's strength and conditioning coach, as well as his first year with the Mets organization.


The Mets play 68 scheduled games, including 34 at home from June through August. The Mets open up at home with a three game series against the Johnson City Cardinals, June 20-22.
