Harrisburg, PA- Taylor Jordan pitched seven strong innings and Steven Souza, Jr. homered for the third time in five games, as the Harrisburg Senators beat the Trenton Thunder 6-2 in the rubber game of the series.
Christian Garcia started the game and pitched a scoreless first in his second appearance with the Senators, on an MLB Rehab Assignment from the Nationals. Jordan took over from there, allowing just three hits, a walk, and one earned run in his seven innings of work. He is now 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in five Double-A appearances since being promoted from High-A Potomac on May 9.
The Senators got on the board first in the second inning, when Sandy Leon doubled with one out and came in on an RBI single by Sean Nicol. Trenton scored a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth, after Jordan hit the first two batters of the inning.
In the sixth, the Senators re-gained the lead and they never relinquished it. Justin Bloxom delivered an RBI double to tie the game and Leon came through with a run-scoring single to put Harrisburg in front to stay.
Souza's homer, his fifth of the season, led off the eighth inning. The Senators added two more insurance runs in the inning on a Nicol sacrifrice-fly and an RBI single from Jose Lozada.
Following an off day Monday, the Senators open a three-game series at Metro Bank Park on Tuesday against the Bowie Baysox.
