The Tampa Bay Rays have announced the call up of top prospect Wil Myers. The International League's RBI leader was removed from Sunday's Durham Bulls game after doubling in the first inning. He is expected to join the Rays in Boston on Tuesday for his Major League debut.
Myers, a Thomasville, NC native, has caught fire over the last month, earning International League Player of the Week honors (May 27 - June 2) and hitting a blistering .327 with five homers and 14 RBI so far in June. The 22-year-old 2012 Minor League Baseball Player of the year (Baseball America, USA Today, Topps/Minor League Baseball) departs Durham having hit .283 with 14 home runs and a league-leading 57 RBI this season. The Rays are expected to option Ryan Roberts to Durham to make room for Myers on the active Major League roster.
The current Durham Bulls homestand continues through Thursday, June 20, as the Louisville Bats make their only appearance of the season for a four-game series. Tickets for all Bulls home games are available at durhambulls.com, at the DBAP box office, or by phone at 919.956.BULL.
