06/16/2013 7:25 PM ET

Hickory, NC - Delmarva Shorebirds (30-37) starter Parker Bridwell tossed a career long eight innings to lead a 4-2 victory over the Hickory Crawdads (39-31) on Sunday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. Bridwell struck out a career high 10 batters.

The Shorebirds struck first in the top of the third inning. Gregory Lorenzo led off with a double on a chopper up the middle and his aggressive base running forced center fielder Lewis Brinson into an error and Lorenzo took third. He scored on a groundout to first by Lucas Herbst. Tucker Nathans followed with a walk. He later scored on a double to the warning track in right field by Nik Balog.

Shorebirds starter Parker Bridwell retired the first 13 batters he faced before Jorge Alfaro singled to right-center in the fifth inning. Bridwell yielded just three hits over eight full innings, a career long outing. Bridwell came out for the ninth inning, but was removed after a lead off single.

In the fifth inning, the Shorebirds tacked on a run. With Herbst at first, the Shorebirds executed a hit-and-run with Tucker Nathans singling down the right field line. Herbst circled around third and cutoff man Ronald Guzman threw wide to the plate and Herbst slid in safely to give the Shorebirds a 3-0 lead.

The Shorebirds added to their lead in the seventh on an opposite field single by Nathans to score Lorenzo, who led off with a single.

In the ninth, Luis Marte led off with a single to center field and Bridwell was replaced by Dennis Torres. Joey Gallo ripped a double to the right field corner to score Marte. Then, Nick Williams doubled off the center field wall to trim the deficit to 4-2. Torres struck out Ryan Rua and grounded out Alfaro to preserve the win for Bridwell.

Herbst, Nathans and Lorenzo each had multiple hits for the Shorebirds, who outhit the Crawdads ten to five.

The Shorebirds begin the second half of the year on Thursday, June 20 against the Asheville Tourists at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
