Aces' Owings plates five in first inning

D-backs prospect hits RBI single, grand slam in 18-7 blowout

Chris Owings homered and drove in five runs Sunday night, sending Reno on its way to an 18-7 thrashing of Tucson.

The D-backs' No. 5 prospect did all his heavy lifting in the first inning, knocking an RBI single and belting a grand slam. He singled again in the fifth and leads the Pacific Coast League with 58 runs scored.

Aaron Hill had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in the second game of a rehab assignment, while Mike Jacobs homered in his fourth straight game for the Aces. Reno's Brad Snyder scored four times.

Padres No. 8 prospect Robbie Erlin lasted two innings for Tucson and was charged with 11 runs on 11 hits and two walks as his ERA ballooned from 3.75 to 5.50.

Chris Colabello, Jeff Clement and Dan Rohfling homered to power Rochester to a 6-3 win over Gwinnett.

Braves No. 8 prospect Todd Cunningham doubled, while No. 14 prospect Joe Terdoslavich homered and reached base three times. Tyler Pastornicky also went yard for Gwinnett.

Sean Gilmartin, Atlanta's fourth-ranked prospect, was tagged for six runs on nine hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings.

Stefen Romero doubled, tripled and plated three runs, but Tacoma dropped a 6-3 decision to Sacramento. The Mariners' No. 9 prospect is hitting .301 with 20 extra-base hits in 46 games in the PCL.

A's No. 2 prospect Michael Choice had an RBI and scored a run, while third-ranked prospect Grant Green singled and scored for the River Cats. No. 11 prospect Michael Taylor chipped in a double and three RBIs.

Sonny Gray, Oakland's top pitching prospect, improved to 7-4 after giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings. He fanned six.

Cody Overbeck lifted a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to give Lehigh Valley a 5-4 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Phillies No. 8 prospect Cody Asche hit his eighth homer for the IronPigs, who got a pair of RBIs from No. 14 prospect Darin Ruf.

Rehabbing Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz singled and scored a run for the winners.

Yankees No. 10 prospect Zolio Almonte collected three more hits, knocked in a run and scored once for the RailRiders.

Tim Wheeler went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Colorado Springs' 9-7 victory over Las Vegas. The Rockies' No. 6 prospect has seven hits over his last four games.

Charlie Culberson, Colorado's 13th-ranked prospect, homered and stole a base, while No. 16 prospect Corey Dickerson contributed his PCL-leading 13th triple, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Drew Pomeranz stuck out 11 over 6 2/3 scoreless innings for the Sky Sox.

Mets No. 7 prospect Wilmer Flores drove in two runs for the 51s, while Zach Lutz hit his second homer in as many games.
