San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers (39-33) have found ways to win in almost every fashion this season, and on Friday night the formula centered around production from the bottom of the order in the 66ers 5-1 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm (28-44).
Brennan Gowens matched his RBI total on the year, crushing a three-RBI triple to deep center off Travis Jankowski's glove. That shot gave the 66ers their first lead of the contest, 3-1 in the fourth. Gowens contribution turned out to be plenty in the victorious effort. Starter Danny Reynolds (6-7) pumped strikes all night long on the bump, going five innings allowing one run while striking out seven.
Abel Baker extended his hitting streak to six games by singling in the fourth inning. The 24-year-old finished the night 2-4 and was robbed of a double in his first plate appearance. The Storm put together nine hits on the night, all singles against the 66ers staff. Eduard Santos lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.13 clip by throwing two scoreless innings of relief in his fourth appearance of the year.
Inland Empire is now 9-2 in its last 11 games, and have won their last seven consecutive home contests. The 66ers will try to make it eight straight on Saturday when they host game three of their four game set with the Lake Elsinore Storm. It will be a giveaway day at San Manuel Stadium with Bernie Pillow Pets, presented by the California Air National Guard, being handed out pre-game in limited supply .
