66ers Quell Quakes Again
06/26/2013 1:46 AM ET

San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers (41-35, 4-2) recorded back to back wins to start their series against their I-10 rivals, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (31-45, 06), winning by a final score of 5-1 on Tuesday Night.

The High-A Angels kept their momentum from Monday with an impressive outing by right-handed starting pitcher Orangel Arenas. In his seven inning outing, Arenas recorded six strikeouts and did not allow a walk. The 23-year old only gave up one run after Jonathan Garcia homered in the fifth. The 66ers are 6-2 this season with Orangel Arenas on the mound.

Tonight's win was not only a product of skill on the hill, but offensive support from the Inland Empire's lineup. The 66ers took an early lead over the Quakes in the second inning when designated hitter Gary Mitchell hit a standup RBI triple. The third inning offered an addition to the 66ers offensive totals, with two more runs plated as a product of RBI's hit by both Alex Yarbrough and Brian Hernandez.

Offensively, Inland Empire's lineup came alive again in the bottom half of the game. With the bases loaded after Garrett Gould allowed a walk, Gary Mitchell hit a RBI single sending the go ahead run home extending the 66ers lead to three. Later in the 7th Brian Hernandez hit a RBI double to plate the fifth tally for the High-A Angels.

Tonight's stellar performance from the Inland Empire's ball club not only added to their season 9-2 winning record over their rival Quakes, but was complete with a handful of noteworthy milestones. Second basemen Alex Yarbrough, top 5th hitter in the league and league leader in season hits, recorded his 21st multi-hit game this season. Gary Mitchell joined Yarborough and had his first multi-hit game of the season, extending his hit streak to six games. Michael Morin, added a save to his season total of 13 after he shut down the Quakes last attempt at a comeback in the ninth inning.

The 66ers will gun for a series sweep against the Quakes on Wednesday at San Manuel Stadium. It will be an 11:00 A.M. start for Wipeout Wednesday, including fun fan water activities to beat the heat.
