Davis, Ohlman Propel Keys to Win
Frederick Comes Up Clutch Down the Stretch in 6-2 Victory
06/26/2013 6:01 PM ET

CF Glynn Davis gave the Keys the lead in the fourth inning and C Michael Ohlman opened the game up in the ninth as Frederick notched their first win of a four-game series in Carolina by upending the Mudcats 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Tied at 1-1 with runners at second and third base and two outs, Davis provided the clutch hit that had avoided the Keys in the first two games of the series. He grounded a two-RBI double down the left-field line to give the Keys a 3-1 advantage.

The Keys used their bullpen as a quartet of relievers compiled to hold Carolina to two runs in the game. Trent Howard started and delivered three innings allowing a run. Zach Fowler would grab the win with two scoreless innings before giving way to Jesse Beal. Beal and Gene Escat combined to work the final four innings with Escat notching his second save.

It was not easy though. In the eighth inning leading 3-2, Carolina put runners at second and third base with one out. Escat entered and got a ground ball struck sharply off the bat of Paddy Matera to Keys 3B Jason Esposito. Esposito dived and tagged out the runner at third base to stifle the rally. The following batter, Bryson Myles, lined a ball sharply to deep left field but LF Johnny Ruettiger saved the day with a leaping catch.

The Keys then added three runs in the ninth inning. With runners two in scoring position and two outs, the Mudcats elected to intentionally walk switch-hitter Jerome Pena to load the bases to face a lefty Nicky Delmonico. The move backfired. Delmonico singled to deep short to bring home a run and Ohlman followed with his third hit of the game to drive home two more Frederick runs providing the final score.

Frederick looks for a series split on Thursday, June 27th with LHP Tim Berry getting the start. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. from Five County Stadium. Coverage will begin 30-minutes prior with The Frederick Gorilla Pre-Game Show on 1450-AM The Source and wthu.org.
