The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes swept the three-game series with the Eugene Emeralds, pounding the Ems 9-3 in front of 2,457 at PK Park.
The Volcanoes collected five runs on six hits in the third. Kentrell Hill led off the inning with a double to left and scored on a Ryan Jones single. Jones made his first start Thursday since injuring his foot during an at-bat against the Hillsboro Hops in the third game of the season. Sam Eberle then hit a two-RBI triple later in the inning to score Tyler Hollick and Jeremy Sy. Jonathan Jones singled later to score Eberle and make it a 5-0 Volcanoes lead early.
Ryan Jones added an insurance run in the fourth when he scored from third on a wild pitch by Michael Kelly. Jones was 3-for-4 on the night with 3 RBIs and two runs scored.
Kelly took over for Emeralds' starter Jeffrey Enloe (1-2) who allowed six runs on nine hits in just three and one-third of an inning.
Joe Kurrasch (1-0) earned his first professional win going five innings, allowing no runs and striking out five. With the shutout performance from the starter, the Volcanoes rotation now has thrown 30 straight innings without allowing an earned run.
The Emeralds scored two runs in the sixth when Jake Shadle allowed two runs on three hits. He returned for the seventh and retired the first three batters he saw.
Both teams scored a run in the ninth to close out the scoring.
On the series, the Volcanoes scored 23 runs, a season high for a series, on thirty hits. Meanwhile, Volcanoes pitching allowed only six runs over the three-game series.
The Volcanoes travel to Hillsboro to take on the newest franchise in the Northwest League, the Hops, starting Friday. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
