BOWIE, Md. - Baysox starting pitcher Eddie Gamboa has been named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, June 30. Gamboa is the first Baysox pitcher to win the award since Jake Pettit won it for the week ending August 19, 2012.
Gamboa, who has converted to pitching a knuckleball this season, threw a seven inning no-hitter in his start Sunday. The righty retired 13 consecutive batters to start the game and walked three while striking out five in the 7-0 win. In his past two starts, Gamboa has allowed just one hit over 14.1 innings and he has pitched seven or more shutout innings in three of his past four starts. On the season, Gamboa is 4-5 with a 3.48 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 15 starts and 93 innings.
