CORPUS CHRISTI - Sean Gallagher pitched seven shutout innings as Tulsa two-hit Corpus Christi in a 3-0 triumph before 7,175 Monday at Whataburger Field.
The Drillers, who completed a three-game series sweep, have won six of seven. The Hooks mustered just nine hits with Tulsa in town, two for extra bases.
Gallagher (4-2), a free-agent acquisition of Colorado in May, has logged big-league time with the Cubs, Athletics, Padres and Pirates. Monday he threw 92 pitches, 54 for strikes. The 27-year-old walked and struck out four.
Dan Houston went six-up, six down to notch his second save.
Nine-hole hitter Jaron Shepherd's cue-ball double just inside the third-base bag morphed into a 1-0 Drillers lead. Shepherd took third when Tyler Kuhn flew to center and home on Kiel Roling's two-out single.
Tulsa missed a prime opportunity to tally in the fourth. Right fielder Domingo Santana mishandled Angelys Nina's deep fly but Nina was subsequently picked off second. Joey Wong followed by doubling to right-center.
Kyle Parker's two-out double the next inning made it 2-0 Drillers. Shepherd was struck by a Bobby Doran pitch and advanced to third when first baseman Erik Castro's throw on a fielder's choice went wide of the second-base bag. Doran fanned the next two men before Parker's blow to left.
Doran (6-2) was pulled after five innings, an earned run, six hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
Kenny Long failed to provide relief as Tulsa added run No. 3 during the sixth. Nina opened with a single and scored all the way from first on Jayson Langfels' double into the left-field corner.
Corpus Christi then had a chance to break through against Gallagher. He walked the bases loaded but induced a fielder's choice grounder from Preston Tucker to vanquish the threat.
Hooks relievers Andrew Robinson, Carlos Quevedo and Patrick Urckfitz tossed a scoreless frame each.
Corpus Christi second baseman Enrique Hernandez saw his hitting streak end at nine games.
The Hooks next hit the road for six at Springfield and Tulsa, returning July 10 for a four-game series vs. Frisco.
