Walker added to Futures Game

Keys first baseman to play in Minor League showcase
July 8, 2013

Frederick Keys first baseman Christian Walker has been added to the U.S. roster for the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game. Walker joins fellow Baltimore Orioles' prospects Henry Urrutia and Eduardo Rodriguez, both named to the World roster, in this year's game, which takes place Sunday, July 14.

In his first full professional season since being drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round last summer, Walker was promoted to Frederick on Mother's Day, May 12, after batting .353 in 31 games with Class-A Delmarva. Since his arrival, Walker has batted .287 with seven homers, 16 doubles and 30 RBIs in 50 games in the middle of the Keys' lineup.

In his last three games, Frederick's first baseman is 7-for-13 with two home runs, five doubles and four RBIs. For the season, combining his stats from Delmarva and Frederick, Walker is batting .312 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles and 50 runs driven in. His batting average is the fifth-best in the Orioles' organization and he has the second most RBIs among Baltimore farmhands.

Walker joins left-handed starter Rodriguez, who has been promoted to Double-A Bowie, as 2013 Keys playing in the Sirius XM Futures Game, which starts at 2 p.m. at Citi Field in New York City on Sunday. The game, a nine-inning contest between the top prospects in the Minor Leagues, is part of Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, the first of three days of all-star events that culminate with the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16. The Futures Game can be watched live on MLB.com and ESPN2 and followed live on MLB.com's Gameday.
