Frederick Keys first baseman Christian Walker slugged five doubles and two homers in three games over the July 4 holiday weekend, helping him earn his first Carolina League Player of the Week honor. Walker batted .375 during the first week of July, posted a .423 on-base percentage and a slugging percentage of .833 in six games.

In the Keys' three-game series against Lynchburg, Frederick's first baseman went 7-for-13 with two home runs, five doubles and four RBIs. He doubled three times in the series opener on July 4 and homered on Friday and Saturday, helping the Keys win the road series against the Hillcats.

Walker went 9-for-24 during the week (July 1-7), scored nine runs and walked twice in addition to his home run, double and RBI totals, all of which came at Lynchburg. Despite starting the week just 2-for-11 in three games against Wilmington, Walker's surge in Lynchburg secured the league award for a Key for the third straight week. Catcher and designated hitter Michael Ohlman won Player of the Week the last two weeks.

The Keys are the only team this season to have players receive the weekly honor for three consecutive periods.

In his first full professional season since being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth round last summer, Walker was promoted to Advanced-A Frederick on Mother's Day, May 12, after batting .353 in 31 games with Class-A Delmarva. Since his arrival, Walker has batted .287 with seven homers, 16 doubles and 30 RBIs in 50 games in the middle of the Keys' lineup. Over the weekend, Walker was also added to the U.S. roster for the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game which will be played Sunday, July 14, at Citi Field in New York City.

Drafted out of South Carolina, Walker helped lead the Gamecocks to back-to-back College World Series Championships in 2010 and 2011 and a runner-up finish in 2012. Baseball America rated Walker, a native of Limerick, Pa., the No. 12 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles' system entering this season.
