Keys Suffer Late Loss
Frederick Loses 10th Inning Lead in 8-7 Defeat
07/08/2013 11:54 PM ET

Three Keys leads went to waste as the Keys could not hang on in an 8-7, 10-inning defeat in the series opener at Frawley Stadium Monday night.

On top 7-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Wilmington got a leadoff walk from CF Lane Adams, a double to left field by DH Jared Schlehueber and a walk by 3B Daniel Mateo to load the bases with no outs. In came Ketys LHP Zach Fowler who enticed a sac fly to left field that tied the game at 7-7. After a wild pitch moved runners to second and third, a failed suicide squeeze turned into a bizarre game's ending.

Rocks LF Ethan Chapman missed the bunt with pinch-runner Alex McClure racing home. Keys catcher Michael Ohlman laid a tag on the runner but also had the trail runner hung up. Ohlman fired to third but his throw was well awry, sailing into left field and allowing the winning run to race around third for the plate to end the game.

Both starting pitchers did not make it through the third inning. Each struggled with control. Wilmington starter Sam Selman allowed four runs while walking five batters in 2 and 2/3rd innings. Keys starter Julio Rodriguez worked 2-plus innings, walking six batters and allowing four runs.

The Keys grabbed the lead in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs from Ohlman (10) and 1B Christian Walker (8) to lead 6-4. Wilmington 1B Dennis Raben tied the game with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. Raben homered twice in the game and drove home five runs.

Frederick looks to put Monday night behind them with LHP Tim Berry on the hill Tuesday in game two of four. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 30-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.

The Keys are back in town for eight games in nine days starting Friday, July 12th at 7:00 p.m. against Carolina. All fans can enter a drawing to win a free hot tub courtesy of Browning Pools & Spas. Fireworks will follow the game presented by Lavida Massage and Browning Pools & Spas.
