Jays fall to Cardinals for fourth straight loss

BLUEFIELD - The Bluefield Jays dropped their fourth consecutive game after falling to the Johnson City Cardinals on Monday night at Bowen Field, 5-1.

 

Bluefield fell to 10-7 on the season and is now tied for first in the Appalachian League East Division. Johnson City improved to 10-7.

 

Johnson City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Bluefield tied the game up in when Dawel Lugo brought in Mitch Nay on a double in the bottom of the fourth.

 

The Cardinals jumped back on top in the top of the sixth when Kyle Grieshaber brought in a run on a groundout. Johnson City extended its lead in the top of the seventh when Vaughn Bryan knocked an RBI-single.

 

After a run scored on a throwing error, the Cardinals jumped ahead 5-1 on a solo home run by Kenny Peoples-Walls.

 

Johnson City pitchers Hansel De Los Santos (W, 1-1), Anderson Gredel, and Zach Loraine held Bluefield to just two hits on the night.

 

Bluefield starter Zak Wasilewski tossed five innings and allowed one run on four hits. Yeyfry Del Rosario (L, 2-1) pitched 1.2 innings and surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk.

 

Alvido Jimenez entered the game in the seventh inning and allowed on hit in his 1.1 scoreless innings of work. Justin D'Alessandro walked on Cardinal in the ninth, but did not surrender a hit or a run.

 

Bluefield will try to avoid the sweep against Johnson City on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and Alberto Tirado will be on the mound for the Jays.
