Erie, PA - Jason Martinson and Jimmy Van Ostrand each hit solo home runs, but it wasn't enough, as the Harrisburg Senators fell to the Erie SeaWolves 7-3 on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park. After the Senators took the first two games of the series, Erie responded to capture the final two and earn a split.
Down 1-0 in the second, Martinson launched his first Double-A home run deep to left field. He hit 12 long balls with High-A Potomac before joining the Senators.
Erie took the lead for good with a run in the third, when Ramon Cabrera delivered an RBI single. He went 4-for-4 in the game with three RBIs and a run scored. The SeaWolves added a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 4-1.
The Senators threatened in the sixth with two runners in scoring position and one out, but weren't able to bring anyone in. In the seventh, they loaded the bases with nobody out and only scored once. Despite pounding out 10 hits (one in every inning except the ninth), Harrisburg left 11 on base and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Van Ostrand's homer led off the eighth inning, after Erie had added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh to pad their lead even further. It was his sixth of the season.
Tomorrow, the Senators return home to open a seven-game homestand with the first of three against the New Britain Rock Cats. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the game can be heard on 1460am The Ticket, on the Internet through the Senators website, and it's available through iHeart Radio beginning with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.
