07/15/2013 1:15 PM ET

HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (15-10, 53-39) couldn't muster much offense Monday as they fell to the Rome Braves (10-14, 46-47) by a score of 3-1. Despite the loss, the Suns still won the overall season series against the Braves four games to three.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Rome took the lead for good in the fifth inning on a solo home run to right-center field by catcher Tyler Tewell, his sixth long ball of the season. Tewell had a strong game for the Braves, going 2-3 with a home run, RBI, and two runs scored.

Hagerstown tallied the first run of the game in the third. Shortstop Stephen Perez drew a lead-off walk, then advanced to second on a groundout by catcher Craig Manuel. Two batters later, 2B Khayyan Norfork dropped a bloop single into right field, bringing home Perez to make it 1-0 Suns.

Rome got the run back in the fourth. Shortstop Jose Peraza started things off with a single, then proceeded to steal second. After advancing to third on a groundout by 2B Eric Garcia, Peraza scored on a single to center field by 1B Edison Sanchez, knotting the game at 1-1, which set them up to take the lead in the fifth inning. The Braves added an insurance run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by RF Felix Marte, making the score 3-1 which would serve as the final.

RHP Mauricio Cabrera (2-5) got the win for Rome. Cabrera pitched six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks while striking out six. RHP Ian Dickson (0-2) took the loss for Hagerstown. Dickson worked five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three. RHP Shae Simmons picked up his 22nd save of the season by tossing one inning, allowing one hit while striking out two.

After an off day on Tuesday, the Suns will embark on a seven game road trip starting Wednesday in Hickory. LHP Brett Mooneyham (4-2) will take the hill for Hagerstown, making his 11th start of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Suns will return home on July 25th where they will open up a four-game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds.
