Wisconsin Beats Lake County 6-2

(Appleton, WI) - Wisconsin (11-13) scored four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning en route to a 6-2 win over Lake County (13-11). The inning began with a fielding error by the Captains, and four runs came across the plate to score. The big hit in the inning was an RBI triple by Tyrone Taylor. The three- bagger made it a 5-0 game and gave the Rattlers in a commanding lead. The Captains went 1-5 on the six game road trip.

Wisconsin scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Garza singled and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Garza scored on an RBI double from Victor Roache. The score was 1-0, when Roache motored around third base on a single by Max Walla and the Timber Rattlers were up 2-0.

Lake County scored two runs in the top half of the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and two men out, Anthony Santander hit a pop fly to the shortstop and Adrian Williams lost it in the sun. The ball dropped and two Captains scored. The score was 6-2 after the RBI single.

LHP Ryan Merritt (5-9) started the ballgame for the Captains and took the loss. Merritt, allowed six runs, two were earned. Merritt yielded nine hits and struck out three. Felix Sterling pitched one and one third inning, and allowed one hit and walked one. D.J. Brown struck out three in one and two thirds innings of work.

RHP Johnny Helweg (1-0) got the starting nod for Wisconsin and earned the win. Hellweg pitvhed six innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out four. Hellweg is on the Milwaukee Brewers 40- Man Roster. Taylor Wall pitched three shutout innings. Wall allowed one hit and fanned three. Wall earned his fifth save of the season.

Lake County will enjoy an off day on Tuesday. On Wednesday night, The Cedar Rapids Kernels will come to Eastlake, Ohio to take on the Captains in a three game series. On Wednesday, RHP Dylan Baker (6-5, 3.26) will get the start for the Captains. The Kernels will counter with RHP Christian Powell (2-3, 5.68). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
