Savannah, GA - Minor League Baseball's annual Mascot Mania competition begins Thursday, July 18. The Savannah Sand Gnats' nine-year-old mascot Gnate the Gnat is up against the rest of the South Atlantic League to start.
Mascot Mania gives all 160 Minor League clubs the opportunity to have their mascot named the top mascot in their league and in Minor League Baseball overall.
Round One ends at . In this round, all teams start in a group with mascots from their own league.
Fans can vote online or via twitter. Fans can vote an unlimited number of times using the online ballot found at www.milb.com/mascotmania. For Twitter, fans can vote by using "#mascotmania" along with the club's Twitter handle in the tweet. Only 25 Twitter votes will be allowed per account per day.
"This year is going to be intense because I'll be battling against all my friends (and a few rivals) in the South Atlantic League," Gnate says. "I would love to be crowned the best mascot in our league. I know my fans will do everything they can to advance me to the next round!"
In Round Two, the mascots who won their league will compete for the overall title. Round Two will begin at on and run until . The overall winner of Mascot Mania will receive a Championship Belt.
Mascot Mania also features a sweepstakes where fans can win MLB.TV subscriptions, MiLB.TV subscriptions, MLB.com & MiLB.com shop gift cards and mascot themed/logoed items. Fans can enter through the online ballot or by tweeting their vote and following @MiLB.
