Stockton, CA - Carlos Frias turned in one of the best outings by a Quakes' starter this year, as Rancho Cucamonga won the rubber game of the three-game series in Stockton with a 5-2 win over the Ports on Friday night.
Frias (2-3) allowed a first-inning run, then went on to retire 16 men in a row before giving up his next base-runner. He allowed just the one run on a total of three hits, striking out a season-best 11 men over seven innings.
The Quakes provided him with some support in the form of four home runs, as the team swatted four round-trippers for the third time in four games.
Bobby Coyle's solo homer tied the game at 1-1 in the second, his sixth of the year.
O'Koyea Dickson went deep to give the Quakes a 2-1 lead in the fifth, his 12th of the season.
Scott Schebler left the yard twice on Friday night, giving him 20 homers on the year, just one off the league-lead. His sixth-inning solo shot put Rancho in front, 3-1, against Ports' starter Raul Alcantara (3-1). Shebler completed his mutli-homer night with a two-run shot in the ninth off of T.J. Walz, giving the Quakes some insurance at 5-1.
The Ports put a rally together against Jarret Martin in the ninth, picking up a run and bringing the tying run to the plate before Rashun Dixon fouled out to end the game.
Rancho (13-16, 44-55) has now won four straight series, after taking two of three over Stockton. They continue their road trip on Saturday night, as they send Gustavo Gomez (3-5) to the mound against Daniel Winkler (12-3) of the Modesto Nuts. First pitch from John Thurman Field will be 7:05pm.
