Sanchez Named Midwest League Player of the Week

July 22, 2013

Clinton, IA - Clinton LumberKings right-hander Victor Sanchez has been named Midwest League Player of the Week, five days after he tossed the seventh nine-inning no-hitter in franchise history.

Sanchez, 18, no-hit the Lansing Lugnuts in Clinton's 1-0 win on Wednesday night at Ashford University Field. In the dominant performance against Lansing, Sanchez did not walk a batter and struck out a season-high eight. The right-hander hit a batter in the first inning then retired 20 straight before a pair of errors allowed two baserunners in the eighth. In 77 years of baseball in Clinton, it marks the 22nd time a pitcher has tossed a no-hitter. Sanchez is the youngest to accomplish the feat.

It is the second such honor for a LumberKings player this year; Jabari Henry took home the award in early May. Sanchez shares the honor with Dayton's Seth Mejias-Brean. The infielder hit .609 with 10 RBIs in six games.

The Clinton LumberKings, Midwest League Affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play at Ashford University Field. For the full 2013 schedule, season ticket and group party information, merchandise and more, call the LumberKings at 563-242-0727 or visit www.lumberkings.com.
