Knights Fall 17-1 in Opener to Indians

(Fort Mill, SC) - Andrew Lambo and Brian Bocock each homered for the Indianapolis Indians, who went on to beat the Charlotte Knights 17-1 on Monday in the opening game of their four-game series from Knights Stadium. The win by Indianapolis snapped a two-game win streak for the Knights. Mike McDade hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to help Charlotte avoid a shutout.

Indianapolis LHP Kris Johnson (9-4, 2.52) allowed just two hits and no runs over six innings en route to his ninth win of the season. Johnson, 28, now leads the International League in ERA. He walked two and struck-out three on the evening.

Lambo launched his 10th home run of the season in the second inning off Charlotte starter Nick McCully (0-1, 30.00). Lambo finished the game 1-for-4 with two runs scored, the home run, and three RBIs. Bocock went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, the home run, and four RBIs.

McCully, a product of Coastal Carolina University, made his Triple-A debut and allowed 10 runs on eight hits over three innings pitched. Reliever Simon Castro then allowed four runs over two innings. LHP Santos Rodriguez followed by allowing two runs over two innings and Daniel Webb allowed one run over 1.2 innings.  

Monday's win by Indianapolis was their third of the season in five games against the Knights this year. 

Earlier in the day, the International League named Knights slugger Andy Wilkins the IL Batter of the Week. Wilkins hit .438 (7-for-16) with three home runs and five RBIs during the four-game week. 

The Knights also announced a handful of roster moves before the game. Catcher Miguel Gonzalez was promoted from Double-A Birmingham to take the roster spot of catcher Hector Gimenez, who was placed on the disabled list. The Knights also received Brent Morel, who was optioned down to the Knights from Chicago. Morel took the roster spot of Jim Gallagher, who was placed on the DL (retroactive to July 21). 

The two teams will continue their series on Tuesday from Knights Stadium at 7:15 p.m. RHP Jason Berken (8-9, 3.85) gets the start for the Knights, while LHP Atahualpa Severino (0-1, 2.49) gets the start for the Indians. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
