(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - Six scoreless innings from LHP Colton Turner combined with a two-hit night for DH Dickie Thon Jr. helped the Canadians to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Spokane Indians on Wednesday night out at Avista Stadium.
Turner limited the Indians offense to just four hits over his six shutout innings that resulted in his 3rd win of the season. RHP Justin James (2.0IP) and RHP Matt Johnson (1.0IP) allowed just one hit over the final three frames with Johnson grabbing his 1st save of the season.
Offensively, the Canadians ran into tough pitching for a second straight night as they struck out 11 times on Wednesday, but solved Indians reliever RHP Eric Brooks in the top of the 6th inning when DH Dickie Thon Jr. (walk) and 1B L.B. Dantlzer (double) both scored the only runs of the night. Canadian-born C Mike Reeves hit a single to right that scored Dantzler.
With the victory, the Canadians improve to 2-0 on the NWL second half and 24-16 (.600) overall through 40 games. The loss drops Spokane to 0-2 and 20-20 (.500) on the summer.
Notes: Vancouver pitching has now gone 22 scoreless innings dating back to the 5th inning against Eugene on July 22nd at Scotiabank Field… The Canadians have four (4) pitchers in the NWL Top 10 (ERA) with RHP Jeremy Gabryszwski (0.99) leading the way.
