Hynick, Bettis dominate in duel
Travelers right-hander slightly betters Drillers counterpart

Brandon Hynick engaged Chad Bettis in a classic pitchers' duel Thursday, with Hynick tossing seven one-hit innings to Bettis' seven two-hit frames as Arkansas beat Tulsa, 2-0.

Hynick fanned five and walked one for the Travelers. Bettis, the Rockies' No. 3 prospect, fanned eight and walked three for the Drillers. Neither hurler figured into the decision.

Ryan Chaffee struck out the side in the eighth and earned his second win while Mike Morin fanned three in the ninth for the save. Carlos Ramirez singled home two runs in the top of the ninth to put the Travelers ahead.

Leuris Gomez was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on two hits over two innings.

Matt Crouse gave up three hits and struck out four over eight innings as Erie blanked Bowie, 4-0.

Crouse improved to 6-8 while lowering his ERA to 4.05 in 24 Double-A contests. Brandon Douglas smacked a two-run double and Daniel Fields, the Tigers' No. 6 prospect, reached base twice and scored twice for the SeaWolves. David Kopp fanned two in a perfect ninth.

Brandon Waring reached base three times for the Baysox.

Tim Crabbe gave up five hits and struck out three over nine shutout innings, but did not figure into the decision as Pensacola fell to Mississippi, 1-0, in 10 innings.

Christian Marrero singled home Mycal Jones with two outs in the bottom of the 10th. Pat Egan yielded two hits over three scoreless frames of relief to earn the win and Mitch Atkins struck out nine over the first seven innings for Mississippi.

Travis Mattair was 2-for-4 to raise his average to .368 in July for the Blue Wahoos.

Justin Green was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs to lead Mobile to a 13-2 win over Birmingham.

Nick Evans homered -- his 17th long ball of the season -- and drove in three runs while Nick Ahmed, the D-backs' No. 5 prospect, scored three times. Mark Serrano struck out seven and gave up two runs on four hits to improve to 4-0 for the BayBears.

Marcus Semien doubled and scored a run for the Barons.
