IronBirds' Offense Pounds Out 16 Hits in 10-2 Win

Norwich, CT- The Aberdeen IronBirds picked up right where they left off last night, as they put up ten runs in back-to-back performances, cruising to a 10-2 win over the Connecticut Tigers.

Sam Kimmel helped get the evening started on the right note, as he led off the game by reaching on an error. He stole his seventh base of the season and then scored on a Trey Mancini RBI single, making it 1-0 IronBirds after one.

Mitch Horacek was dominant and he got plenty of help from his offense as the game would move along.

Aberdeen would add to their lead in the third. After Manny Hernandez led off with a single, Federico Castagnini launched a home run over the left field wall for his first professional home run, and it made the score 3-0 Aberdeen.

Kimmel struck again in the fourth. He hit an RBI single, scoring Hector Veloz and, after four, the IronBirds led 4-0.

In the fifth, the IronBirds would put the game out of reach. A Veloz RBI double, Jared Breen RBI triple, and Hernandez RBI double, one right after the other, helped Aberdeen score three runs, and made it 7-0 IronBirds.

In the top of the sixth, Kimmel and Mancini both doubled, allowing Kimmel to score. Austin Wynns then hit an RBI single to right field allowing Mancini to trot on home, and it was 9-0 Aberdeen.

Horacek's dominant night would hit a bump in the sixth. After skating through four and two thirds, including striking out five in a row, he allowed his first hit of the game with two down in the fifth and run into a bit of trouble in the bottom of the sixth.

The Tigers loaded the bases two separate times, scoring two runs on two hits and took advantage of three Horacek walks. It was 9-2 Aberdeen after six innings.

It was the closes Connecticut would come.

Horacek's night was done after six innings. He allowed just three hits, two runs (both earned), walking three and fanning a season-high eight. He got the win and improved to 5-2.

In the ninth, Tanner Rust and Jack Graham would pinch-hit and come through for the IronBirds. Rust hit a one out single, and Conor Bierfeldt followed with a double. Graham then poked one through the right side and into right field for an RBI single, scoring Rust and making the final 10-2.

The IronBirds will send Austin Urban to the hill tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
