08/19/2013 1:02 PM ET

Springfield, MO - For the second consecutive week, the Texas League has named Springfield Cardinals All-Star LHP Tim Cooney the Texas League Pitcher of the Week, this time for the week of August 12 - 18. Cooney also won the award last week, covering August 5 - 11, and is the first pitcher in the league this season to claim consecutive weekly honors.

Cooney's back-to-back awards increase the Cardinals total to five weekly awards this year, with All-Star 3B Ruben Gotay claiming the Player of the Week award for June 17 - 23, 1B Xavier Scruggs for April 29 - May 5 and All-Star LF Mike O'Neill for April 22 - 28.

Cooney, 23, followed up his dominant start against the Frisco RoughRiders on August 8 with another excellent outing against Frisco last Thursday. Facing the RoughRiders in Frisco, Cooney helped pace the Cardinals to the 7-1 victory with seven innings of work, allowing only one run on two hits while striking out seven batters. He issued only one walk, and concluded his stellar start by closing the seventh inning with his seventh strikeout, a looking punchout against 3B Ryan Rua.

The Collegeville, Pennsylvania native has posted a 7-7 record with a 3.86 ERA through 17 starts with Springfield. In 98.0 total innings, he has racked up 105 strikeouts with only 16 walks allowed. Cooney started the campaign with the Palm Beach Cardinals (High-A), going 3-3 with a 2.75 ERA through six starts before being promoted to Springfield on May 13.

In his first full professional season, Cooney was selected by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2012 June Draft out of Wake Forest University.
