Cutters Drop Second Straight

Pierce Has Four Hit Night

WILLIAMSPORT - For the second straight night, the Spikes show their offensive muscle as they defeat the Cutters 9-3.

Despite getting the first two batters of the inning out, Mitch Gueller's defense let him down in the bottom of the 1st inning. Brett Wiley, who reached on an Error by Zach Green, scored on a Ronald Castillo single to make it 1-0 Spikes. David Washington would later score on an error by Malquin Canelo to make it 2-0. Gueller would get out of the inning.

State College added on to their lead in the 4th inning. David Washington plated the first two runs of the inning when he doubled to right to plate Cesar Velera and Brett Wiley to make it 4-0. It was RBI 41 and 42 for Washington. Washington would score on an RBI single by Carson Kelly to make it 5-0. Ronald Castillo would score on a Corey Bass pass ball to make it 6-0. Jimmy Bosco capped the scoring with an RBI single to plate Carson Kelly and make it 7-0.

Williamsport would get on the board in the 5th inning when Andrew Pullin singled home Logan Pierce and Gustavo Martinez to make it a 7-2 deficit. For Pullin, it was RBI number 18 and 19 on the season.

State College would get a run back in the bottom of the 5th inning. David Washington singled to center to drive home Brett Wiley and make it 8-2 Spikes. Washington increased his New York-Penn League RBI lead to 43 on the play.

Steven Ramos capped the scoring for the Spikes with a sacrifice fly to left field to plate Mason Katz and make it 9-2.

Andrew Pullin would cap the scoring for the Cutters with a RBI ground out in the 6th inning to plate Malquin Canelo from 3rd base and make it 9-3.

Arturo Reyes would get his 1st win of the season after going six innings of eight-hit, two-run baseball. Reyes walked two and struck out one before handing it off to Micheal Aldrete. Aldrete went two innings of two-hit, one-run baseball to get his 3rd hold of the season. Jacob Booden threw a scoreless ninth to finish the game.

Mitch Gueller falls to 3-7 on the season after allowing six runs on 10 hits in 3.1 innings pitched. Gueller handed the baseball off to Manny Martinez in the 4th inning. Martinez would go 1.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits. Mark Meadors would replace Martinez in the sixth inning. Meadors allowed one run on one hit in two innings of work. Tyler Buckley pitched a scoreless eight for the Cutters.

Cutters Carvings: The Cutters left 12 runners on base, including the bases loaded in the 8th & 9th innings… Williamsport had 11 hits in the loss… Williamsport has lost the last seven starts by Mitch Gueller…
