Amaral's Slam Sinks Captains 5-3

(Eastlake, OH) Beau Amaral's grand slam homerun in the top of the fourth inning was the big hit on the night and the Dragons defeated the Captains 5-3 on Thursday Night. In the fifth inning besides the slam, Dayton (33-27) added another run. Brent Peterson singled and scored on a double from Jon Matthews. The score was 5-1 Dragons. Lake County (29-30) leads the season series against Dayton eight games to seven with one left to play.

Lake County scored a run in the first inning. LeVon Washington and Dorssys Paulino hit back-to-back doubles and it was a 1-0 Captains. Lake County added a homerun from Jorge Martinez, his eighth of the season, in the bottom of the fifth and the score was 5-2 Dayton. Lake County got another run in the bottom half of the eighth inning when Dorssys Paulino plugged the right-center field gap with a runner on second base. The runner came into score and the score was 5-3. Paulino had two RBI's on the night. 5-3 was the final.

RHP Robbie Aviles (4-4) started the game for Lake County and took the loss. Aviles pitched five innings and allowed eight hits. Aviles surrendered five earned runs, one strike out and allowed the grand slam. Geoff Davenport made his Captains debut and pitched three innings. Davenport allowed one hit and fanned three. Jack Wagoner pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Captains.

RHP Drew Cisco (5-7) took the ball for Dayton and earned the win. Cisco pitched six innings and allowed five hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts. Cisco allowed the homer to Martinez. The Dragons used three relief pitchers to twirl three innings of relief. Alejandro Chacin earned his eighth save of the season.

The Captains will remain in Eastlake, Ohio on Thursday to take on the Dayton Dragons in the second game of a three game set. The Captains will start RHP DJ Brown (2-4, 2.88) to start the ballgame and the Dragons will throw with RHP Sal Romano (7-9, 4.66). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM from Classic Park.
