The Boise Hawks swept the Volcanoes Friday, picking up the win in the finale of the three-game series 8-1 in front of 3,174 at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Hawks once again had an offensive outpouring, scoring their eight runs on 12 hits including two more homeruns. The visitors would record 41 hits and five homeruns in the three game set.

Chase Johnson (2-3) got the start for Salem-Keizer, but struggled on the hill, giving up six runs on five hits in just three innings.

The Hawks jumped out to a huge lead early, pulling away 5-0 in the first inning on four hits. After striking out Shawon Dunston to start the game, Johnson then gave up four hits in the next five batters and would allow six consecutive Hawks to reach. Justin Marra picked up his third homerun in two days, blasting a three-run shot to score Jacob Rogers and Rony Rodriguez.

They would add to that lead in the third when Kevin Encarnacion hit a solo homerun on the first pitch of the inning from Johnson. Encarnacion went 5-for-5 on the night with a double, a homerun, two RBI and three runs scored.

Paul Blackburn (3-2) was solid in the start for the visitors, but would struggle to find the strike zone. Blackburn pitched five innings of shutout baseball giving up just one hit, but would walk six batters. The Volcanoes could not capitalize on the walks, however, leaving the bases loaded twice in the contest.

Tyler Hollick carried the offensive load for the Volcanoes, going 3-for-5 with an RBI. He hit in the only Volcanoes run and had three of the four hits on the night for the home squad.

The Hawks are now 6-3 on the year against the Volcanoes and are the first team to sweep them in the 2013 season.

The Volcanoes now travel down to PK Park to take on the Eugene Emeralds for a three-game series. Game one kicks off Saturday with a game time set for 7:05 p.m.
