The Everett AquaSox scored four runs in the first three innings and that would be all they needed as they went on to defeat the Tri-City Dust Devils 5-1 Saturday night at Gesa Stadium.
Tri-City (12-18 Second Half, 31-37 Overall) right fielder Julian Yan had his third two-hit game in a row since returning from the disabled list on Wednesday in Spokane, and first baseman Sean Dwyer drove in the only Dust Devils run in the loss.
Tri-City right-hander Logan Norris (0-3) had a rocky start to his outing, giving up four runs, three earned, and eight hits through his first three innings. He was able to get past it and settled in, allowing just two more hits over the next three innings. He finished his night after six innings, allowing just the four runs on ten hits. He struck out five and walked just one. Norris was charged with the loss.
Everett (16-14, 39-29) starting pitcher Tommy Burns (2-1) found himself in trouble a few times during his outing, but was able to play Houdini all but once. He handed over the ball after six innings, allowing just one run on three hits. He walked three and struck out five on the night.
The second game of the three game series between the Dust Devils and AquaSox will be Sunday night at Gesa Stadium. It will be Team Poster Giveaway Night at the ball park, presented by the Pasco Police Department. Right-hander Johendi Jiminian is scheduled to start for Tri-City, and he will be opposed by righty Nate Koneski for Everett, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available by visiting www.dustdevilsbaseball.com or calling the front office at (509) 544-8789.
