LumberKings Drop Fourth Straight

Wisconsin and Peoria trail Clinton by three games
August 25, 2013

Beloit, WI - A late rally by the LumberKings in the ninth inning fell short as Beloit held on for a 6-4 win Sunday afternoon at Pohlman Field.

The loss was the fourth straight for Clinton who remains three games ahead of Peoria and Wisconsin for the final playoff spot in the Western Division.

Beloit jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the LumberKings battled back in the third. Dario Pizzano's second double of the day drove in Brock Hebert to cut the lead to 2-1. Tyler Marlette then followed with a run-scoring groundout to tie the game at 2-2.

Pizzano's two doubles extended his hitting streak to 18 games; the longest for a Clinton player this year. He has also reached safely in 34 consecutive games. Hebert finished 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Starter Steven Ewing allowed a second solo home run to Daniel Robertson to start the bottom of the fifth inning. Ewing was charged with the loss after he allowed three runs over six innings.

Beloit added a run in the seventh and two in the eighth to extend the lead to 6-2. Clinton's Luis Caballero lined a two-run single down the right field line to pull the LumberKings within two in the ninth inning. They brought the tying run to the plate but the comeback wasn't meant to be as Tyler Vail locked up his fifth save of the year by getting Janelfy Zorrilla on a fly out to end the game.

Game three of the series is Monday night in Beloit. The LumberKings send right-hander David Holman (4-6, 3.23) against Beloit right-hander Dylan Covey (0-1, 4.23). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
