08/26/2013 9:37 PM ET

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (74-59, 34-30), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, lost their fifth straight game Monday, dropping a 3-0 decision against the Winston-Salem Dash at BB&T Ballpark. The Pelicans were swept for the third time this month and have been blanked eight times this season.

Right-hander Josh McElwee (2-2) took the loss for the Pelicans, allowing three unearned runs over three innings of work with four strikeouts. Bryan Blough (11-10) earned the win for the Dash, firing a complete game shutout. The right-hander scattered six hits and struck out a pair for the Dash's second complete game shutout of the season.

Alec Asher extended his scoreless streak to 25 straight innings, turning in five shutout innings of four-hit baseball. The right-hander took a no decision but struck out eight batters during the five innings. Asher leads the Carolina League with 139 strikeouts on the season. The Dash loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning but Asher tallied back-to-back strikeouts to get out of trouble.

The Dash scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning. Mark Haddow started the scoring with an RBI double and Grant Buckner capped the rally with a two-run single. Haddow paced the Dash with a 4-for-4 performance.

The Pelicans put a pair of runners in scoring position in the eighth inning, but Haddow made a diving catch in right field, robbing Patrick Cantwell of a hit to preserve the shutout.

Edwin Garcia charged the Pelicans six-hit performance with a 2-for-3 performance.

The Pelicans travel to Wilmington to begin a three-game series Tuesday at Frawley Stadium. Right-hander Nick McBride (0-4, 3.20) will be opposed by right-hander Angel Baez. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. EST with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20.

The Pelicans return home Saturday to begin a three-game series with the Carolina Mudcats at TicketReturn.com Field. It is the final regular season home series of 2013. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com or by calling 918-6000.
