Cardinals Two-Hit Braves to Finish Sweep

D-Braves Fall In Final Home Contest of '13
August 27, 2013

DANVILLE, Va. - In front of the third largest crowd of the season at home, Danville fell short in their final home game of 2013 2-0. The Cardinals pitching staff was masterful allowing just two hits and two walks as they shutout the D-Braves.

Starting pitcher Nick Lomascolo was excellent in his third start of the season, throwing six shutout innings. He allowed one hit, a Mikey Reynolds triple in the third, and one walk while fanning eight Danville batters.

Matt Marksberry for Danville pitched well allowing five hits over four innings while limiting the Johnson City offense to just five hits. One run came with runners on the corners and Marksberry picked off a runner at first. As that runner broke for second and was thrown out by Jackson Laumann, Devante Lacy bolted from third and beat the throw at the plate from Reynolds.

Both teams bullpens were excellent Tuesday, helping the game remain close into the late innings.

Ismael Brito and Fernando Baez combined for three shutout innings while allowing just two base runners. Brito was able to generate many swings-and-misses sitting four batters down on strikes. Baez walked one in the ninth but no harm was done as he was able to notch his fifth save of 2013.

Ryan Gunther and Colby Holmes pitched well out of the pen for Danville, allowing four hits over five shutout innings. Gunther struck out four batters and Holmes fanned two in his time on the mound.

Danville's only other hit came from the bat of Carlos Sanchez to lead off the eighth inning.

Danville will head to the road for their final series of the year at the Greeneville Astros. Danville took two of three from the Astros when they were at ALP 325 Field just last week.
