Berry, a 22-year-old left-hander, is 9-7 with a 3.91 ERA this season, having struck out 113 batters and walked just 37 in 140.1 innings pitched. In April, he pitched to a 2-1 mark with a 3.21 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 28 innings, and was named Orioles' Minor League Pitcher of the Month. In June, he was even better, going 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA. Berry's thrown the third-most innings in the Carolina League this season and has allowed a walks-per-nine-innings ratio of 2.37, fourth-lowest in the league. Baseball America rated him the Orioles' No. 11 prospect after the 2012 season.
After suffering a shoulder injury April that sidelined him for six weeks, Ohlman has enjoyed a breakout year in Frederick, leading the Carolina League in batting average and slugging percentage. Ohlman's hitting .308, which is tied for the league lead, with 59 runs scored, 104 hits, 26 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, 54 RBIs and 50 walks in 93 games. A 6-5, 215-pound right-handed hitter, he's slugging .525 and has an on-base percentage of .409, which ranks third in the league. Ohlman, Baltimore's 11th-round pick in 2009, is also 22 years old.
The other Orioles players traveling to Arizona this fall are Cuban outfielders Henry Urrutia and Dariel Alvarez, second baseman Jonathan Schoop and pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez, Branden Kline and Jason Gurka. Alvarez and Rodriguez both played for Frederick this season before promotions to Double-A Bowie. With the Keys, Alvarez played 10 games in August and crushed Carolina League pitching to the tune of a .436 average, two doubles, two homers and seven RBIs. Rodriguez started the season with the Keys, went 6-4 with a 2.85 ERA and was named a Carolina League All-Star before his promotion in late June.
Schoop (2011) and Gurka (2011-2012) are both former Keys and Branden Kline is a native of Frederick, having attended Governor Thomas Johnson High School.
Bowie's manager Gary Kendall will manage the Saguaros, which is comprised of players from the Baltimore, Cleveland, Boston, Texas and Milwaukee organizations. The AFL schedule begins Tuesday, Oct. 8.
