The Volcanoes fell to the Boise Hawks for the seventh time in eight games, losing 10-6 in front of 2,253 at Memorial Stadium.

Jake Smith (1-2) made his third start for the Volcanoes, going three innings while giving up four runs on seven hits.

The Hawks would jump out to a 4-0 lead after productive second and third frames, highlighted by two homeruns. In the third, Justin Marra led off with a double to left. Although he would be credited with a hit, Brian Ragira misplayed the ball and let the line drive sneak over the top of his head. With two outs in the inning, Marra would be brought in on another double, this time off the bat of Carlos Penalver.

The home team then opened up their lead with three hits and three runs in the third. Jacob Rogers rocketed a two-run homerun to right to bring in Kevin Encarnacion who hit a single earlier in the inning. Encarnacion was 4-for-5 on the game with two runs scored and a stolen base. Yasiel Balaguert then made it back-to-back shots when he hit a solo homerun to left.

The Volcanoes mounted a few rallies of their own, putting three runs on the board in both the fourth and the sixth. In both frames Tyler Horan, Leo Rojas and Ryan Tuntland would score the runs. Tuntland went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI.

Justin Marra had his fourth homerun against the Volcanoes in a week, hitting a three-run shot in the fourth, he was 2-for-4 on the night with a double, homerun, two runs scored and three RBI.

The Hawks are now 4-0 against the Volcanoes in the second half of the 2013 season and 7-3 overall. If they win one of the two remaining games between the two teams in the regular season, they will have won three of the four series on the year.

The Volcanoes and Hawks will face off in game two of the three-game series Thursday at Memorial Stadium. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
