The Volcanoes took game two of their three-game series with the Boise Hawks 10-8 in front of 2,664 at Memorial Stadium on Thursday. It was the Volcanoes first win against the Hawks in the second half of the 2013 season.
The Hawks jumped out to a lead early, picking up a run in the first off of Chase Johnson. Daniel Lockhart hit a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would then come in on a grounder by Kevin Encarnacion.
The visitors then jumped on top with a big second inning, scoring four runs on three hits. Shilo McCall hit a two-RBI single to bring in Tyler Horan and Blake Miller. McCall would later score along with Ty Ross on a single by Ryan Jones. McCall was 2-for-4 on the night with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.
After the game was tied up on two different occasions, the Volcanoes pulled away for good with another four-run inning in the sixth. McCall led off the inning with a double and came in on a Tyler Hollick single. Horan finished off the inning with a huge two-RBI triple to right. In the middle of the sixth, the Volcanoes would own a 10-6 lead after beating up on reliever Loiger Padron (2-4). Padron pitched two and one thirds innings in relief, giving up five runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three.
Christian Jones (2-0) picked up the win for the Volcanoes, pitching the fourth and fifth. He would give up one run on three hits, striking out three.
Raymundo Montero came in for a two-inning save for the Volcanoes, picking up save number 14. He is now tied with Trent Daniel of the Tri-City Dust Devils for the Northwest League lead.
The Volcanoes and Hawks will face off in the finale and rubber match of their three-game series Friday at Memorial Stadium. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
