Cutters Take Rubber Match

WILLIAMSPORT - Zach Green tied Walter Young's Cutters team record with his 13th home run as the Cutters take the rubber match from Batavia 9-3 at the Bow.

After a statistical mix up a night ago, Zach Green cleared things up when he officially belted his 13th home run of the season in the top half of the 2nd inning to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead against Muckdogs starter Jarlin Garcia. Logan Pierce and Samuel Hiciano would get back-to-back one-out singles against Garcia. Sam Dove would follow with a two-run double to the right centerfield gap to make it 3-0 Cutters. Garcia would get out of the inning leaving Dove on 2nd base.

Batavia would get a run back in the top of the 3rd inning against starter Shane Martin. Javier Lopez would score on a RBI ground out by JT Riddle to cut it to a 3-1 deficit. Martin would not allow another run in the inning.

Williamsport would get the run back in the bottom of the 5th inning. Justin Parr would triple to right center field with two outs followed by a Dylan Cozens bloop single that would plate Parr and make it 4-1 Cutters. Garcia would pick off Cozens to end the inning.

The Muckdogs cut the deficit to 4-2 against Rob Marcello in the top of the 5th inning when Rehiner Cordova grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Connor Burke to score.

Williamsport increased their lead off of reliever James Wooster in the bottom of the 7th inning when Malquin Canelo double to deep left to plate Samuel Hiciano and Sam Dove to make it a 6-2 Cutters lead. Dylan Cozens would plate Canelo on an infield groundout to make it 7-2.

Williamsport tacked some insurance in the bottom of the 8th inning. Sam Dove singled to centerfield where Coco Johnson allowed the ball to roll passed him to allow Logan Pierce to score and make it 8-2. Malquin Canelo followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Samuel Hiciano to make it 9-2 against reliever Ryan Merkling.

Batavia would get a run in the top of the 9th inning against Josh Warner when Javier Lopez grounded into a RBI fielder's choice to plate Carlos Lopez and make it a 9-3 deficit for Batavia. Warner would end the 9th and the game without allowing another run.

Cutters starter Shane Martin would go five innings, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. Martin was in line for the win when he handed the ball over to Robert Marcello. Marcello would go one inning, allowing one run without allowing a hit. Marcello would be replaced by Mark Meadors in the 7th. Meadors did not allow a run on one hit while striking out two in two innings of work. Josh Warner pitched the 9th for Williamsport, he would allow one run in his inning of work.

Muckdogs starter Jarlin Garcia would go five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five Cutters. Garcia was on the hook for the loss when he was replaced by Tyler Kane in the 6th inning. Kane would go one inning without allowing a run. He surrendered on hit while striking out a batter. He would be replaced by James Wooster in the 7th inning. Wooster would allow three runs on three. Wooster struck out one and walked one before being relieved by Patrick Merkling in the 8th. Merkling surrendered two runs in his inning of relief.

Cutters Carvings: Jarlin Garcia picked off three Crosscutters baserunners… Williamsport has hit 46 home runs as a team, a new team record for the Crosscutters… Williamsport starts their final home series tomorrow night vs Jamestown…
