SALEM-KEIZER VOLCANOES ANNOUNCE 2014 SCHEDULE

Opening Night, Father's Day and Independence Day Highlight Exciting Northwest League Slate

 

KEIZER, OR - The Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, in conjunction with the Northwest League, released its 2014 schedule celebrating the 18th year of Volcanoes baseball in Keizer.

The regular season begins in at Volcanoes Stadium on Friday, June 13, 2014 with a five-game series against the Vancouver Canadians. The 76-game regular season features 38 home games.

The Volcanoes will play at home for two 2014 holidays including Father's Day (Sunday, June 15 vs. Vancouver) and Independence Day (Friday, July 4 vs. Hillsboro). Additionally, the Volcanoes will host five Friday games and four Saturday contests during the regular season.

In the second season of the North-South Divisional alignment, the Volcanoes will play two five-game series (one home, one road) against each team in the NWL North (Everett, Spokane, Tri-City and Vancouver). Salem-Keizer will play four three-game series (two home, two road) against each South Division rival (Boise, Eugene, and Hillsboro).

The 2014 campaign kicks off with a preseason game on Thursday, June 12 against the College All-Stars, a group of the best collegiate talent from around the Northwest.

The Volcanoes will play its first 17 games in Oregon, beginning with a five-game series against the 2011 and 2012 Northwest League Champion Canadians. After Salem-Keizer makes its first road trip to Hillsboro, the Volcanoes return home for a five-game series against Everett on Saturday, June 21 through Wednesday June 25th. The 17-game stretch in Oregon concludes with a three-game road trip to Eugene.

The Volcanoes are also proud to announce the return the 2nd annual Nike Futures Game at Volcanoes Stadium on Thursday, July 3. The exciting event features a twi-night double header of the 38 best prospects in Oregon along with a fireworks show to follow the games.

The Volcanoes will host the newest professional baseball team in Oregon, the Hillsboro Hops, for the 7th Annual Patriotic Tribute at Volcanoes Stadium over the July 4th weekend.

All eight teams in the Northwest League will have a three-day All-Star Break, August 4-6. The 2014 NWL All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, August 5 at PK Park, home of the Eugene Emeralds.

The first half of the season will end on Monday, July 21, with the regular season winding down on Monday, September 1.

Playoff procedures for the upcoming season remain unchanged as both the first and second half winners of each division will square off in a three-game series for the right to compete in the NWL Championship.
