NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Brandon Hynick and a quartet of relief pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in a 2-0 victory for the Arkansas Travelers at Dickey-Stephens Park on Sunday afternoon.
Travis Witherspoon's two-run double in the second inning scored Robbie Widlansky and Ryan Jones in the only runs of the game. Widlansky reached on a leadoff walk, while Jones reached on a one out free pass from Naturals starter Sugar Ray Marimon.
The Naturals had runners at second and third with one out in the fourth inning after a leadoff walk and an error, but a strikeout and lineout ended their best threat without a run crossing the plate. Northwest Arkansas went 0-for-6 with Runners in Scoring Position and left six runners on base.
Angel Franco was one-for-three with a double, while Rey Navarro and Orlando Calixte each reached on singles.
Hynick recorded his 12th win of the season, allowing two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Mike Morin picked up his 10th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Marimon was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Sam Runion allowed a hit with a strikeout in an inning of work.
The Naturals conclude the 2013 season tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m. against the Travelers. Aaron Brooks (7-6, 3.92 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Naturals. Matt Oye (7-8, 4.98 ERA) is scheduled to start for Arkansas.
