DAVENPORT, IA - Daniel Minor pitched six innings and gave up only one earned run to help earn a 3-2 victory for the Quad Cities River Bandits over the Beloit Snappers at Modern Woodman Park on Monday afternoon in the final game of the Midwest League regular season for both teams.
Beloit finishes up the regular season at 77-62 (34-35 in the second half). Quad Cities ends the year at 81-57 (43-26 in the second half).
Minor (8-2) did allow six hits in six innings, but didn't walk a batter over the course of his outing. He also struck out five, including K'ing the side in the fourth. The Snappers picked up an unearned run off Minor in the second when John Wooten scored on an error and added an earned run in the sixth thanks to an RBI single by Matt Olson.
Quad Cities first got on the board in the third as the result of Teoscar Hernandez's 13th homer of the season, which came off starter Deyvi Jimenez (2-6) and knotted the score at one. In the next inning they went ahead on an RBI triple by Jordan Scott (2-4, RBI). When Carlos Correa singled in Scott later in the inning, that lead went to 3-1.
Starting in the seventh, the River Bandits bullpen came into the game and slammed the door. First, Jamaine Cotton fired a pair of scoreless frames. Then, in the ninth, Zach Morton earned his first save with a scoreless inning.
The next stop for the Snappers is the 2013 Midwest League Playoffs and they begin on Wednesday, with Game One of their first round series in Clinton against the LumberKings. The Snappers will be counting on RHP Derek DeYoung (8-5, 4.22 ERA), who'll be facing RHP Victor Sanchez (6-6, 2.78 ERA). The game's first pitch time is 6:30pm.
